Bali: A Week of Discovery and Serenity

Hello from the enchanting island of Bali, Indonesia! My first-ever journey to this tropical paradise was a week filled with adventure, relaxation, and heartwarming encounters. From the winding roads of Canggu to the soothing sounds of remote waterfalls, every moment in Bali was a step into a world of breathtaking beauty and rich culture.

The week kicked off with a nice dinner on the beach with Kayla, a former student of mine. She was living in Bali at the time, and was the perfect guide to the vibrant streets of this beachside town. I took several exhilarating rides through Canggu on Kayla’s moped, and soaked in the laid-back yet lively spirit of Canggu. The sense of freedom on the moped, with the warm Balinese breeze brushing against us, was sometimes scary, but truly liberating.

My morning walks to Echo beach to watch the surfers, followed by breakfast at one of the nearby cafes were quite peaceful and grounding. Spending a Sunday at La Brisa beach club was the epitome of relaxation. The club, with its rustic charm and ocean views, was the perfect spot to unwind. The sound of the waves, the taste of tropical cocktails, and the sight of the sun setting over the ocean was a sensory delight. It was a day of shopping for locally made products, laughter, and memories that encapsulated the Balinese ethos of living in harmony with nature.

One of the highlights of the trip was our expedition to Bali’s hidden waterfalls. Nestled in the heart of nature, these cascading waters were a sight to behold. The journey to each waterfall, trekking through verdant forests and listening to the symphony of nature, was as mesmerizing as the destination. On the way, we stopped at the rice paddies and hiked through the property taking in the beauty of something as simple as rice growing.

My journey wouldn’t have been the same without Wayan, our driver and a friend of Kayla’s. Wayan’s kindness and gentle soul were a reflection of the warmth of the Balinese people. His insights into the local culture and history enriched my travels, turning each journey into a learning experience. His genuine care and hospitality made me feel not just like a tourist, but like a friend welcomed into his homeland.

As I reflect on my week in Bali, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and connections. Bali is not just a destination; it’s a feeling, a spirit that stays with you long after you leave. From the thrill of exploring on a moped to the serenity of remote waterfalls and the joy of beachside relaxation, Bali has left an indelible mark on my heart.
